This is a reminder to anyone that needs to read it.
Depression is not something to be ashamed or embarrassed
about. Whether it is genetic or not, reach out.
To a family member, a friend, a therapist, a counselor,
your high power, whatever it takes to help you through.
Talk about it, read about it, write about it, paint about it.
We just went through a really tough 4 years. The past 1 being extremely onerous.
Some of us have even lost people in our lives. Due to covid or chaos,
both very painful.
Beyond the daily material mouth mask, I found I myself put back on
the mental one too. You know the one, "Everything is okay mask".
I get things out in my artwork. Thus, the subtitle on home page
"Justaposing the taciturnity and the caterwaul". When you don't
have your usual healthy out time, or you tell yourself you don't have the time,
you can fall into a place where you are wearing the mask again.
When I lose site of my art time, I will pull out this old
book, by David Bayles and Ted Orland
Art & Fear: Observations On the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking .
When my vessel is empty and hiding out in a corner
it's time to fill it up again. I'll for instance pulled out this book
by Sark Succulent Wild Woman
After or during reading those two books mention above,
I'll often journal. Currently using this journal my friend bought me.
Knock Knock It's Gonna Be Okay Inner-Truth Journal, 7" x 9.5"
Then and most importantly I can use some of my favorite tools
and materials to paint and get it all out.
Tonight currently using this paper.
